Due to the lack of interest, we will cancel the Lunch and Learn at the Lodge for May 25th. MBCI will be in Santa Fe the 25th, 26th, and 27th of May to provide this same presentation in local architects offices, and anyone interested can contact Mack Miller mmiller@ncilp.com to attend any of these dates.

MBCI’s Eco-ficient Series consists of roof and wall panel systems to meet the challenges of today’s most stringent energy efficiency requirements. The exterior of the wall panels is available in a variety of widths, profiles and finishes including painted surfaces as well as applied finishes. The interior is striated white metal panel finish for easy maintenance and light reflectivity. The steel inner and outer skins are bonded by a core of polyurethane foam insulation available in various thicknesses for high performance insulation. Installation of a single composite unit translates to less erection time and greater efficiency in labor costs versus the “multiple layers” systems found in many projects.

The one hour presentation yields one learning unit credit and as well as HSW and SD certified.

MBCI is pleased to bring this opportunity to you.

W21 is Santa Fe’s nationally acclaimed community center for youth entertainment, entrepreneurialism and artistic production for
individuals under the age of 21. Located in the Railyard district of Santa Fe, W21 is the premiere location for the youth of Santa Fe to
gather, learn and express themselves.

This warehouse style, metal and concrete block building provides an economical structure that blends with the context of industrial
buildings in the rail yard. The design is be a flexible “core and shell structure”, that can be further adapted by users as the organization
expands and evolves. It houses multi-functioning art spaces, visual arts, digital arts and fashion design studios. It also contains two
performance spaces; a concert hall and a black box performance area. Each is capable of seating 300 people and are designed to be
flexible with quality acoustics for both national and local acts. A top end recording studio is attached to the upper level performance
space.

Strategically placed windows and skylights with “sunbender” devices provide abundant daylight to the interior while solar collectors heat
domestic water, resulting in significant energy savings for this non-profit organization. In keeping with the industrial aesthetic of the
Railyard, mechanical equipment is left visible and exposed, allowing teens to learn how a building works. The exterior consists of
simple corrugated metal panels and blank stucco walls that serve as a canvas for young artists, giving teens as much responsibility as
the architect for the building’s final appearance.

- Client: Warehouse 21 / City of Santa Fe
- Size: 16,900 SF
- Budget: $2,500,000
- Completed: 2008
- Structural – Chavez-Grieves Consulting Engineers, Civil – Walker Engineering, Mechanical – Sonalysts, Electrical – Peak Power Engineering
- Builder: Sarcon Construction

Built over several years with the same developer team, the three Railyard Gallery Buildings are designed to further the objectives of
the Railyard Master Plan – create a contemporary arts corridor while defining a permeable built edge to the district. The renovation of the
Sears-Hansen Building preserves and highlights its original heavy timber structure. Old paint and plaster were sandblasted from
surfaces to expose textures in the exposed wood and concrete. Skylights were placed over the 20ʼ x 20ʼ grid of columns and beams,
revealing a new relationship between the contrasting, crisp gallery interiors and the existing, rough-sawn structure. New entries on the
East side of the building were deeply recessed to emphasize threshold into the original masonry box, while a portal carved out of the
West facade provides a shared communal area for the buildingʼs tenants. Concrete stairs, planters, and ramps on the exterior of the
building provide urban pedestrian zones. The Rose Building was designed to match the footprint and massing of the Morelli Building
that it replaced. The simple volumes use a simple warehouse tectonic to highlight the contemporary gallery spaces. The program for the
Truro Building required flexible ground floor gallery space, with offices on a mezzanine, and a separate flexible leasable office space
on a second floor. The angled form on the street side of the building reflects the resolution of the city street geometry with the bearing of
the nearby train tracks.
