The State Records Center and Archives is pleased to announce a lecture by the Office of the State Historian Scholarship recipient, Bettina Raphael. Ms. Raphael is also the owner/conservator of the Southwest Conservation Laboratory in Santa Fe.

Olive Rush

The lecture focuses on Olive Rush, painter, teacher and outspoken adventurer, the “first lady of the arts” in Santa Fe for decades following her arrival in 1920. Yet today, only some historians, art lovers and Quakers remember who she was and what she contributed to the Santa Fe community. The lecture offers an opportunity to hear about Olive’s life in her own words, to see her home, and to know her versatile artwork.

Santa Fe AIA Modernist Architecture and Urban Design Event

Yesterday, John Barton and I met with Jason Silverman and John Gordon from CCA. They were very enthusiastic about hosting an AIA Santa Fe Modern Architecture and Urban Design event. Conceptually, this event would include:
- A gallery show of AIA Santa Fe Members modern architecture and urban design work
- Movies about modern architecture, architects and related subjects
- Panel Discussions about modern architecture
- Lecture(s)
- Other items

Fall 2010

CCA has schedule openings for this event in late August, early September and throughout October of 2010. The final date will be determined by the Event Committee’s ability to plan and assemble the pieces. This event is initially conceived of as a weekend long event with a show opening on a Friday evening and other events occurring throughout the weekend.

Collaborations

I have also considered seeking collaborations between AIASF and:
UNM School of Architecture
AIASF Allied Members
Thornburg – Jeff Harnar Award
Other environmental design professions

Volunteers Needed

The purpose of this event is to increase public awareness of the tremendous creative talent of Santa Fe AIA members and to raise funds for the AIASF Scholarship Fund. Planning this event will require a group effort of about five people. Those interested in planning this event should e-mail me at acm@acmoore-architects.com and plan to have our initial planning meeting during the 1st week of March.
