The City of Santa Fe is in the process of adopting a green commercial code. Under the direction of Katherine Mortimer and Richard Macpherson a committee has been meeting for several months. The first decision was to base the City’s new code on the IGCC. Since then we have been going over the code chapter by chapter reviewing applicability and potential local modifications. Scheduled September meetings are the 2nd and 16th, at noon, at Lloyd & Associates, 501 Halona Street.

AIA Santa Fe Chapter Secretary

The 2010 International Green Construction Code (IGCC) Version 1.0 Public Comments have been posted online in a single file as well as by chapter. An advance session to familiarize participants with the hearings will be held Friday, August 13, to discuss hearing logistics and procedures. The file also includes hotel information, the hearing schedule and procedures and the tentative order of discussion. The IGCC Public Comment Hearings will take place August 14-22 in Chicago.

AIA NM has joined a John Hancock Sponsored Group Discount Program to allow AIA NM eligible members and their families to purchase John Hancock Long-Term Care Insurance at a premium discount. Though we are not endorsing the product, we are making this member benefit available through the John Hancock representative, Mariah Sacoman. In order for the discount to kick in permanently, its necessary that 3 qualified AIA members to apply for a policy in the next 90 days – otherwise, no discount.

The Governor’s Commission on Disability is co-sponsoring a training on 
the New ADA on October 7th and 8th at the Albuquerque Convention 
Center. The U.S. Access Board, authors of the ADA, will be training us 
on the New ADA, children’s play access and recreation access. The cost 
is very reasonable and includes continental breakfast and lunch both

The New ADA was adopted July 23rd, 2010 and will be effective in six 
months, however, The New ADA will be effective for new construction 
and alteration in 18 months.

Kelly Quinn will discuss Hilyard R. Robinson(1899-1986), an African American design professional who introduced modern architecture to African America during the Civil Rights era. Quinn will present three case studies: Langston Terrace Dwellings (1938) and the Mary McLeod Bethune Memorial at Lincoln Park (1974), both in Washington, D.C.; and an unbuilt program for the Liberia Centennial and Victory Exposition (1945–1949).
